Why do people write blogs?

I am curious why I am writing a blog?
My natural tendency is to treat it as a diary, but I've prevented myself from sending >50% of the entries because they were too raw and I wasn't sure if I should share.
Why not just write in a diary?
So, what is the purpose of this?
I originally wanted to share with my friends especially those in the US my experience of moving to Israel and also to record for myself this very special and important event.
But, I cannot separate my every-day feelings and experiences from the overall/bigger experience of living in Israel.

I think you can be as open as you choose to be.

If you are feeling sad. You can say that you're feeling sad, but you don't have to elaborate to the point that you are uncomfortable.

For me, our blog is for friends and family to stay in touch, but also I put things in the blog that are little subtle reminders as to how I really felt that day or will remind me of more than I truly let on, when I go back and re-read the blog years from now.

It's cool that you write and then don't post all of your blogs. Still keep those posts and do something with them. Put them in a totally anonymous blog, or re-write them in a journal or print them out. Writing is healing and soul-searching no matter what.

Just don't give up. I love your blog and feel more connected to you than I have in a long time because we don't see each other or talk to each other often enough.

I've loved everything you've written!!

Does that help answer your question? At all?

thanks Sarah, that is helpful. now i am not writing much or posting since i don't have internet in my room anymore... but that will change. i want to also put in links... i need to figure out how. i really doubt that i'll ever re-read any of my blogs, maybe the ones that are short or organized well... so maybe that's the kind of blogs that i should write :) i also like seeing pictures... i must not like to read much... maybe a few lines and a picture, i'll try and see how it works :) miss you.
